This is a selective admission program. You must the meet the requirements below to be eligible.

Selective admission programs are not eligible for the 60+ reduced tuition rate.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

You must have a minimum cumulative academic GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Prerequisite Courses

You must have completed the following four with a grade of "C" or higher:

  • BIOL 144 Human Anatomy and Physiology (5 cr hrs) or BIOL 140 Human Anatomy and BIOL 225 Human Physiology (8 cr hrs)
  • PSYC 130 Introduction to Psychology (3 cr hrs)
  • HC 130 Medical Terminology for Health Care Providers (3 cr hrs)

You must have completed OR be enrolled in the following with a grade of C or higher:

  • PSYC 218 Human Development (3 cr hrs)

If you have taken these courses at an accredited college other than JCCC, you must have your transcripts sent to us prior to the application deadline.

  • The GPA is calculated only on coursework required for the program that has been completed by the application deadline. Please visit with a JCCC counselor in the Counseling Center if you have questions about your coursework GPA.
  • Grades below C are not accepted but will be used to figure your coursework GPA.
  • Applicants must have completed BIOL 144, PSYC 130, and HC 130 before the application deadline. You may be in progress PSYC 218 during the application period. Email a screen shot of your grade between June 24 and July 1, 2024, to tleland@jccc.edu. The screen shot should include your full name, grade and name of the course.

Kansas CNA Certification

  • Kansas CNA certification is required by the first day of classes. The certification must be printed from the Kansas Nurse Aide Registry, not your card. It is permissible to be enrolled in the CNA class during the application period. CNA verification must then be valid by the Practical Nursing orientation.
  • Kansas CNA certification must be active through the first day of class.
  • If you have a CNA certification in another state, please contact the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services in Topeka (785-296-6877 or 785-296-0061) as soon as possible for information on challenging the Kansas CNA certification test. The certification test must be taken before the deadline date. Proof of certification test registration is required.
  • There are no exceptions to this requirement. Prior health background or experience does not satisfy the requirement.

Previous College Transcripts

  • All previous college transcripts are due by the July 1 deadline.
  • You are responsible for making sure that all transfer credit is posted to your transcript as equivalent to JCCC courses required or to see a counselor about the possibility of obtaining a course substitution by July 1.
  • It is not necessary to send JCCC transcripts
  • It is not necessary to request transcripts from previous colleges if JCCC already has them on file.  Please contact Admissions if you have any questions. Hand carried, faxed or copies issued to students will NOT be accepted.

Paperwork

  • All paperwork is due to Selective Admissions by the appropriate deadline for the cohort you are seeking acceptance.
  • If you submit your PN application well in advance, you will be notified on your personal admission plan as to the received/missing items. If you wait until closer to the deadline date to apply, notification will be delayed, and you may not meet the requirements.
  • An academic evaluation/ranking will not occur until after three weeks after the deadline. Students will be notified via their JCCC student email if they qualify for an interview.

We highly recommend that you attend a Nursing Information Session. If you have questions after the information session, you are strongly encouraged to meet with one of the PN Counselors in the Counseling Center before the deadline.

Enrollment deadlines

  • All paperwork is due to Selective Admissions by the following deadlines
    • Full-time Spring Start: July 1 deadline.
    • Part-time Summer Start: Oct. 15 deadline
    • Full-time Fall Start: March 15 deadline
  • If you submit your PN application well in advance, you will be notified on your personal admission plan as to the received/missing items. If you wait until closer to the deadline date to apply, notification will be delayed, and you may not meet the requirements.
  • An academic evaluation/ranking will not occur until after the respective deadlines. Notification of qualification will occur 15 business days after the deadline.
Note:
This program requires an internship, practicum, clinical component or state/board licensing. The institutions that host internships/practicums/clinicals may require applicants to provide a Social Security number or show proof of having a Social Security card.
