This is a selective admission program. You must the meet the requirements below to be eligible.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

You must have a minimum cumulative academic GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Prerequisite Courses

You must be currently enrolled in OR have completed the following with a grade of C or higher:

  • BIOL 144 Human Anatomy and Physiology (5 cr hrs) or BIOL 140 Human Anatomy and BIOL 225 Human Physiology (8 cr hrs)
  • PSYC 130 Introduction to Psychology (3 cr hrs)
  • PSYC 218 Human Development (3 cr hrs)
  • HC 130 Medical Terminology for Health Care Providers (3 cr hrs) - Not a requirement but students will receive extra points if they have attained a C or greater. *This course will be required for all 2020 applicants.
  • XNC 3140 CPR Provider or current American Heart Association BLS Provider

*Applicants can earn extra ranking points for their HC 130 grade. (For example: A=10 points, B=7.5 points, and C=5 points.)

If you have taken these courses at an accredited college other than JCCC, you must have your transcripts sent to us.

Reading Readiness

All applicants must demonstrate English reading comprehension prior to admission to the program. You can demonstrate this skill via ONE of the following:

  1. Completion of English Composition I at JCCC or an accredited college as verified through official transcripts sent to us.
  2. Submission of an official ACT reading score of 21 or higher. SAT results may not be substituted. Official ACT scores may not be hand carried and must be forwarded directly to JCCC Testing Services. The JCCC ACT school code is 1425.
  3. Completion of the Reading Comprehension session of the ACCUPLACER placement test with a score of 255 or higher. The ACCUPLACER must have been completed within 2 years of the application deadline. Students who do not receive the required score on the ACCUPLACER may retake the test one time.

Kansas CNA Certification

  • Kansas CNA certification is required by the first day of classes. The certification must be printed from the Kansas Nurse Aide Registry, not your card. It is permissible to be enrolled in the CNA class during the application period. CNA verification must then be valid by the Practical Nursing orientation.
  • Kansas CNA certification must be active through the first day of class.
  • If you have a CNA certification in another state, please contact the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services in Topeka (785-296-6877 or 785-296-0061) as soon as possible for information on challenging the Kansas CNA certification test. The certification test must be taken before the deadline date. Proof of certification test registration is required.
  • There are no exceptions to this requirement. Prior health background or experience does not satisfy the requirement.

Ranking and Selection

  • Ranking consists of PN coursework, GPA, submission of all required documents, and an interview score.
  • Ranking will occur as follows:
    • Cumulative GPA; Prerequisite Grades are 60% of overall score.
    • Prerequisites will be assessed as follows: A=10 points, B=7.5 points, C=5 points. If student is currently enrolling in a prerequisite course at time of application, a print out of their current grade in the course is required.
    • Interview score is 40% of overall score.
  • Applicants are notified via student email by mid-April if they are selected to interview.
    • Up to 65 applicants for the day and 50 applicants for the part-time program will be interviewed.
    • A waitlist will be established should any of candidates decline their position.
