Immunizations Required
Many of our affiliate rotation sites that students attend require proof of vaccination. Therefore, all students entering a healthcare program such as practical nursing will need to provide proof of immunization and/or immunity for the following:
- Hepatitis B series and Immunity – One of the following is required:
- 3 vaccinations or
- Positive antibody titer or
- A signed school declination waiver
- Measles, Mumps Rubella – One of the following is required:
- 2 vaccinations or
- Positive antibody titer for all 3 components
- Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis)
- Submit documentation of Tdap or booster within the past 10 years
- Varicella Zoster Virus (Chicken Pox) - One of the following is required:
- 2 vaccinations or
- Positive antibody titer
- Flu vaccine
- Must be completed annually between September 1 and October 31
- TB screening - One of the following is required:
- 2 Step TB Skin Test (administered 1-3 weeks apart)
- QuantiFeron Gold Blood test (Lab report required)
- IGRA blood test (Lab report required)
- Clear chest X-Ray (Lab report required)
- COVID-19 Vaccine - Exemption requests will be considered upon acceptance to the PN program.
What will I learn in JCCC's Practical Nursing program?
The highly selective Practical Nurse program at JCCC offers hands-on classroom and clinical learning. Classes are located off-campus at JCCC’s Olathe Health Education Center. The OHEC Healthcare Simulation Center features four full-size acute care rooms decked out with the same equipment and supplies you will use in a healthcare facility.
Sophisticated simulators come in a variety of sizes and can be programmed with hundreds of symptoms to test your knowledge and skill, including physical and emotional reactions to your clinical choices.
In the full-time and part-time programs, you’ll gain experience providing client care in:
- Pediatrics
- Obstetrics
- Gerontology
- Medical-surgical
- Mental health
You’ll also get real-world experience working with facilities, clinics and long-term care facilities that partner with JCCC, which can open doors as you begin your PN career.

Three Paths to Become an LPN

Demand for skilled nurses continues to grow. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates there will be 88,900 new LPN jobs by 2026.
JCCC’s Practical Nursing program is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. Graduates of JCCC’s Practical Nursing program consistently exceed the national average pass rate of the NCLEX-PN. The job outlook for LPNs is very promising and employment of LPNs is expected to grow faster than the average for other occupations.
Once you pass your LPN licensing exam, you can help patients in a variety of healthcare settings:
- Hospitals
- Physician offices
- Health clinics
- Long-term care facilities
- Private home care
In some facilities, LPNs may supervise certified nursing aides, certified medication aides and other healthcare team members.
