The Hiersteiner Child Development Center (HCDC) program is designed to support the efforts of JCCC students to pursue their educational goals and to offer support needed by JCCC faculty and staff to achieve their work potential.

HCDC is licensed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation.

Eligibility

Enrollment is open to children of JCCC students, employees, and the community.
We are licensed for children ages 1 and walking through age 6 by September 1. The center provides child education and care on a part- or full-time basis, either Full Time Monday-Friday full days or Part Time Monday/Wednesday/Friday or Tuesday/Thursday full day options.

Financial Assistance Available

The JCCC Child Care Access Fund Scholarship is awarded to JCCC students at the beginning of fall and spring semesters. The scholarship pays 75% to 95% of child care costs. Students may apply through the JCCC Scholarship Portal. Further information may be found at JCCC Child Care Access Fund Scholarship

The Child Care Assistance Grant is also awarded to JCCC students at the beginning of fall and spring semesters. Students may apply through the JCCC Scholarship Portal

Classrooms

The toddler classrooms Hideaway Woods, Bug Garden and Big Backyard have a teacher/child ratio of 1:4.

Young preschool classrooms Bamboo Forest and African Kingdom have a teacher/child ratio of 1:9. Preschool classrooms Blue Lagoon and Rainforest have a teacher/child ratio of 1:10.

HCDC is fortunate not only to have a staff of well-educated classroom teachers, but to also have trained on-call substitutes.
