Purpose

The purpose of this Policy is to define attendance standards for students enrolled in credit courses (both in-person and online) at Johnson County Community College (JCCC). 

Attendance Expectations and Standards

Punctual and regular attendance at all scheduled classes, for the duration of the class, is regarded as integral to all courses and is expected of all students. Each JCCC faculty member will include attendance guidelines in his/her course syllabus that are applicable to that course, and students are responsible for knowing and adhering to those guidelines.

The student is responsible for all class content and assignments missed due to absence. Course absences may result in reduction of grade, drop for non-attendance or withdrawal of the student from a course.

Authorized Absences

Students who are absent as a result of jury duty, subpoena, a religious observance requiring accommodation, required military duty or activities where they are required to represent the College, must provide advanced notice to the faculty member in accordance with the Student Attendance Operating Procedure. Failure to comply with the notice Procedures related to the authorized absence may result in loss of the opportunity to complete the course work.

For all other absences, authorization of the absence is within the authority of the individual faculty member.
