Learning beyond the classroom
All Interior Design courses are taught by award-winning professors with real-world experience. Network with professionals throughout your studies. You’ll have the chance to join several national industry student organizations:
- Interior Design Student Association (IDSA)
- American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)
- International Interior Design Association (IIDA)
- National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA)
- National Association of the Remodeling Industry (NARI)
Each spring, selected students redesign a room in the Symphony Designers’ Showhouse, a fundraiser for the Kansas City Symphony. You will also complete a160-hour internship. Graduate with a portfolio of studio projects and connections to many professional contacts.
Launch or boost your career as an Interior Design Assistant
Do you already have a job in interior design and want to expand your skills? Would you like to launch your career in only one year? In either case, JCCC’s Interior Design Assistant Certificate will give you the foundation you need. An interiors internship will familiarize you with the industry and provide valuable on-the-job experience.
Become an assistant and learn how to:
- Use lighting, accessories, and textiles in interiors
- Create and read drafts on industry software
- Understand the importance of sustainable products
- Work as part of a project team
- Budget and estimate projections
Meet with an Interior Design advisor before you plan your education path. Classes need to be taken in a specific order to ensure timely completion, but the department offers many options to help you launch the career you want.

Learn from experienced professors who are the best at what they do. Join the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) and network with other students. You will have the opportunity to meet professional contacts and build your portfolio of studio projects.
