Advanced Standing Credit Policy 314.03
Johnson County Community College
Series: 300 Students
Section: Academic Policies

Applicability: This Policy applies to all Johnson County Community College (“JCCC” or the “College”) students.

Purpose: The purpose of this Policy is to address advanced standing credit and prior learning assessment at JCCC.

Statement:

Students may earn a maximum of thirty (30) credit hours of advanced standing credit through prior learning assessment. Prior learning assessment refers to a program at JCCC that provides credit for knowledge acquired outside the traditional classroom, and includes portfolio evaluation, certificate evaluation, comprehensive departmental proficiency examination, military training evaluation, articulated credit from high school courses, and standardized examinations such as Advanced Placement (“AP”), the College Level Examination Program (“CLEP”), or International Baccalaureate (“IB”) examinations. A non-refundable fee is required for portfolio evaluations and comprehensive departmental proficiency exams.

Advanced standing credit will not count toward satisfying the fifteen (15) credit hour residency requirement for graduation. To apply for advanced standing credit, a student must be currently admitted or enrolled at JCCC. Prior Learning Assessment is coordinated through the Records Office. Exceptions to this Policy may be made for specific career programs.
