Johnson County Community College’s Strategic Enrollment Management Plan reflects the College’s mission, vision, values, and enrollment goals and priorities.

The plan provides a framework for projects, initiatives, and priorities for providing service to students, establishes action items that will be used as the basis for continuous improvement, and provides guidance for resource allocation and technology and facilities planning.

Objective 1: Build Awareness

Ensure all prospective and current students know about the college and what we have to offer.

  • Action Item 1: Use messaging to highlight our unique value proposition, academic programs, support services, and campus culture.
  • Action Item 2: Expand personas to represent our student populations based on age, background, socioeconomic status, academic readiness, work/vet status, and career interests.
  • Action Item 3: Organize recruitment events, open houses, and campus tours built around areas of interest to provide prospective students with opportunities to meet faculty and staff and learn about academic programs and support services.
  • Action Item 4: Create an area of interest and related academic programming that identifies JCCC as a place to go when you aren’t sure where to go; become the exploration destination for college education in the Kansas City area.

Objective 2: Online Presence

Capitalize on the awareness that is made possible by our web presence.

  • Action Item 1: Optimize the college's website for user experience and search engine visibility to attract prospective students.
  • Action Item 2: Create engaging and informative content, including virtual campus tours, program videos, student testimonials, and blog posts, to showcase the college's offerings and student life.
  • Action Item 3: Leverage social media platforms to engage with prospective students, share campus news and events, and address inquiries in real-time.

Objective 3: Targeted Marketing and Outreach

Adopt technology that allows for unique student recruitment experiences.

  • Action Item 1: Using a cutting-edge Constituent Relationship Management system, develop tailored marketing materials and messages that resonate with prospective students' interests, needs, and aspirations.
  • Action Item 2: Create prospect lists based on criteria such as academic program interests, individual backgrounds and goals, demographic characteristics, and application status.
  • Action Item 3: Tailor marketing campaigns, communication strategies, and outreach efforts to specific prospect segments.

 

Objective 1: Financing Education

Create an awareness and comfort-level with the varied ways to finance postsecondary education.

  • Action Item 1: Decrease the stigma and increase the interest that people have in seeking financial support to finance their education.
  • Action Item 2: Enhance financial aid awareness and accessibility for students through workshops about financial aid options, scholarships, and tuition assistance programs.
  • Action Item 3: Provide comprehensive support services to guide new and returning students through the financial aid process.
  • Action Item 4: Offer financial literacy workshops and one-on-one counseling sessions to help students make informed decisions about financing their education and managing student debt.

Objective 2: Navigation and Wayfinding

Consider physical structures and how to use them to welcome prospective students.

  • Action Item 1: Increase parking availability for prospective students who visit campus.
  • Action Item 2: Ensure campus navigation is made simple through appropriate signage and wayfinding.
  • Action Item 3: Redesign campus driving paths to create an intuitive route to the college’s “front door.”
  • Action Item 4: Develop digital options, signage, and mapping for the entry to Midwest Trust Center for those who start there and need redirection.

Objective 3: Increase Access

Develop recruitment strategies to attract a diverse student body that reflects the community served by the college.

  • Action Item 1: Increase enrollment of underrepresented communities, including first-generation college students, students with disabilities, veterans, and other historically marginalized groups.
  • Action Item 2: Participate in community events, career fairs, and college fairs to raise awareness and foster relationships with prospective students and their families.
  • Action Item 3: Collaborate with a myriad of organizations and educational partners to enhance entry to higher education.

Objective 4: Prepare for a Global Future

Dismantle communication barriers and provide paths to entry for those whose first language is not English.

  • Action Item 1: Ensure that the college’s admission and enrollment processes align with best practices and goals, and that they are clearly articulated on college web pages.
  • Action Item 2: Further develop opportunities for the futures of English Language Learners by forging connections among continuing education, regional institutions, and credit programs.
  • Action Item 3: Explore the college’s ability to recruit internationally and to attract ESL domestic students, as well as its ability to address the language needs of workforce development partners.
  • Action Item 4: Enhance communication between English Language Learners and JCCC by translating materials, increasing awareness of interpreting services, and offering cultural trainings for staff.

Objective 1: Develop Meaningful Relationships

Create organizational processes and structures that allow for relationship-building.

  • Action Item 1: Develop a mandatory course designed to build familiarity with the college and enhance student success skills while building an academic and social cohort.
  • Action Item 2: Using a cutting-edge student success software platform, create a data-informed case management model and empower students with tools to stay on track toward graduation, and ultimately achieve academic and career goals.
  • Action Item 3: Use Wrap Around services pilot to create a model that allows for targeted interventions and support services based on identified needs.

Objective 2: Be a Safe Space

Foster a sense of belonging and community on campus and in our classrooms.

  • Action Item 1: Build community and connections where students can receive guidance, advice, and encouragement.
  • Action Item 2: Ensure that support services, resources, and facilities are accessible to all students, including those with disabilities, diverse learning needs, and non-traditional backgrounds.
  • Action Item 3: Partner with faculty development and the Educational Technology Center to promote Universal Design of Instruction to support inclusion and success of all students.

Objective 3: Support the Whole Student

Adopt a “just-in-time” and “just-in-place” philosophy that defines how we provide services to students.

  • Action Item 1: Review office hours, delivery methods, and department locations to increase availability and use of services offered to students.
  • Action Item 2: Investigate high-stakes courses to determine advising practices that may reduce D/F/W rates.
  • Action Item 3: Modify the Academic Suspension policy. Create an optional intervention for those who are unsuccessful in the attempt to complete the one-semester suspension.
  • Action Item 4: Create and implement a communication plan for outreach to currently enrolled students who are on Academic Probation, as well as recently enrolled students who were on Academic Probation at time of departure, to decrease stopouts and dropouts.

 

Objective 1: Prepare Students for Transfer and the Workforce

Give students the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to successfully transfer to four-year institutions and to be workforce ready.

  • Action Item 1: Host transfer workshops and information sessions to familiarize students with the transfer process, including application procedures, deadlines, and transfer agreements with four-year institutions.
  • Action Item 2: Enter partnerships with four-year schools to allow for Dual Admissions/Dual Enrollment and ease of transfer.
  • Action Item 3: Facilitate relationships, externships, job mentorship, and job shadowing opportunities to help students gain practical experience in their chosen academic fields and the workforce.
  • Action Item 4: Add Counseling and Career Services representation to Advisory Boards for Career & Tech Ed programs to forge relationships and build networks for students.
  • Action Item 5: Create opportunities for purposeful community engagement to develop awareness of JCCC programs and integrate JCCC with the regional workforce.

Objective 2: Encourage Completion

Increase graduation rates by using a multi-faceted approach that provides student support from every angle.

  • Action Item 1: Increase familiarity with and use of the Academic Resource Center.
  • Action Item 2: Designate financial aid dollars for Completion Scholarships to minimize financial barriers to graduation.
  • Action Item 3: Capitalize on Reverse Transfer possibilities.
  • Action Item 4: Design structured program maps, course sequences, and job and transfer routes to streamline degree requirements and guide students toward completion.
