Learning Beyond Walls

At Johnson County Community College, education happens everywhere. We’re expanding our outdoor learning spaces to connect students with nature, foster collaboration, and offer flexible, fresh-air places to study and gather.
Key Campus Projects:
- Outdoor Classroom/Amphitheater: Located at the heart of campus near the Commons, this flexible gathering space will host outdoor lectures, student performances, and campus events. It will provide flexible instructional space, seating for music and theatre performances, and space for student and community events and activities.
- On-Ground Observatory: A new, standalone facility with a rolling roof will boost student research and offer the community a front-row seat to the stars. It will support growth in the Astronomy program, enhance research opportunities, and provide space for community events.
