The day of the Symposium:

  • Posters will be presented in sessions. After registration has closed, participants will be contacted with the time they will present. We are tentatively planning to schedule the following 4 session times:

    • 9-10:15 a.m.
    • 10:30-11:45 a.m.
    • noon-1:15 p.m.
    • 1:30-2:45 p.m.

  • Students should plan to stay near their poster and discuss their research or project with attendees and judges. If a poster is from an entire class, at least one class member should plan to stay near the poster.
  • There will be a check-in table near the door of the event space. Participants should plan to check-in at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the session, and will receive a nametag and location assignment for their poster.
  • Posters will be assigned a location that corresponds to a number in the program. Students should not change locations.
  • A judge or judges will give feedback on each poster. Judges will be identified with nametags.
  • A JCCC photographer will be taking photos for JCCC use.
  • JCCC Video Services will be available to film a 1-3 minute video that will be included in a digital archive of the event. Filming a video is optional.
  • Student may take their poster materials at the end of their session.
  • Feedback from judges and award certificates will be available at the end of the session.
  • The event space will allow for social distancing.

Judging and awards:

  • A judge will visit each poster and ask a few questions about the research or project.
  • The judges are experts in their fields.
  • The judges will provide feedback on each poster using criteria in the below Rubric (.pdf)
  • A certificate and ribbon (superior, excellent, and outstanding) will be awarded to each participant. Feedback from the rubric will also be given to each participant.
  • One poster from each session will be recognized with a special award.

After the Symposium:

  • A digital archive called ScholarSpace@JCCC will be maintained. It will include each abstract, a picture of the poster and a video presentation (if the participant chose to do a video).
  • There will be an opportunity for students to provide feedback regarding the event.
