CLEAR students who attend expansion classes learn life skills necessary for independent living while building strong friendships along the way.

All students must meet attendance criteria. Students new to the program must set up an appointment for a new student interview. For an interview, contact the Community Programs Manager, Catie Marx, at cmarx@jccc.edu or 913-469-7890. Students must interview and be accepted before their classes begin but may submit provisional enrollment before their interview occurs

Expansion students may attend classes in one of two ways: independently or through their 18-21 post high program. Those attending independently will receive enrollment sent to them directly via e-mail each semester. One-on-one support and/or transportation is not provided by the Supported Education Programs staff. Students must be able to independently navigate the campus if they are coming as an independent student.  For those attending with a post-high, high school transition staff will assist students with enrollment and transportation arrangements.

The CLEAR Expansion program has a flat fee of $20 per semester. Enrollments are processed through the Supported Education Programs office. Students must be Kansas residents and between 18-26 years old. Students are eligible to enroll in and complete the semester in which they turn 27 so long as they are still 26 at the time of enrollment.

Classes fill very quickly, often within a matter of days. Please register early and rank all the classes in your desired hours. We make every effort to place students in their first or second choices, but this is not always possible. Enrolling early provides the best chance of getting your preferred classes.

College Academy

College Academy courses are designed for students who may wish to enter an Inclusive Post-secondary Program, such as JCCC’s CONNECT program, in future semesters or who wish to have a higher level of academic coursework during their CLEAR experience. These courses will require reading, writing and may potentially have homework or more in-depth projects to complete in class.
