Here's what you can expect as a student in the Practical Nursing program.
Each Practical Nursing course requires approximately 20-30 hours per week of time commitment, including both didactic course work and clinical experiences. Class/lab days are normally between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, which includes two clinical days that may be 8-12 hour shifts as early as 5 a.m. If selected, you will be given a schedule prior to the start of each semester to make appropriate arrangements, if necessary.
PN nursing courses begin twice a year. The full-time program begins every August with 32 students, January with 24 students, and the part-time program begin in June with 24 students.
A background check and drug screen must be conducted only if you are accepted for admission to the program (See Kansas Nurse Practice Act [PDF], Statute 65-1120 and 65-1115 for a list of felony crimes which may preclude licensure as a Practical Nurse in Kansas).
You must apply each year you wish to be considered for the JCCC Practical Nursing program; waiting lists are not maintained from year to year.
It is strongly recommended that BIOL 144 Human Anatomy and Physiology be taken within 5 years of March 15 deadline. Later courses will be accepted; however, students should be aware that basic anatomy and physiology is not discussed in the PN classes.
If you choose to retake a course, the most recent grade is used in determining your program GPA. This may not necessarily be your highest grade.
Letters of reference are not accepted, nor will they be considered in the selection process.
