In 30 credit hours, get the basic skills for entry-level jobs as a residential or commercial electrician apprentice.
Learn OSHA safety and how to read construction drawings
Study the National Electrical Code, schematic drawings using electrical measuring equipment, and wiring diagrams all while improving your workplace communication skills.
In two semesters, through hands-on training you learn to install electrical systems such as:
- Cable, conduit, and electrical boxes
- Luminaires and lighting control
- Appliances and receptacles
- Fire, security, and communication systems
Take the Journeyman Electrician Licensing exam and begin in the workplace as an entry-level residential or commercial electrician.
Learn from licensed master electricians
Work on various systems in a lab setting. Class sizes are smaller for personalized instruction. Complete project individually and in groups to build teamwork and leadership skills.
Get an advantage over other job candidates and demonstrate your commitment to the electrical trade. In the program, you network with local businesses and our Electrical Technology Advisory Board who hire students from JCCC. You take field trips and listen to presentations to understand what employers look for in prospective employees.
Move from apprentice to journeyman to master electrician as you gain more experience.
Enroll in JCCC’s Electrical Technology, AAS classes and choose to transfer to another college to earn a bachelor’s degree. Most JCCC courses transfer to all Kansas public post-secondary institutions.
