At Johnson County Community College, our Accounting courses prepare you for a successful career in accounting, finance, or business. At JCCC, our two-year curriculum will give you a strong base in accounting and business principles needed for accounting positions.
What will I learn in Accounting classes at JCCC?
Our Accounting program starts by introducing you to accounting fundamentals, including ledgers, journals and financial statements. Then, you will go on to study more specialized areas of accounting. Our top-notch Accounting and Business professors will teach you about:
- Accounting software and applications
- Small business accounting
- Federal income taxes
- Accounting principles
- Business ethics
- Human relations
- Accounting for nonprofit organizations
- Managerial accounting
- Detection and prevention of fraud
In addition to your Accounting courses, you will take business mathematics and business communications. These courses will give you skills to be competitive for accounting roles.
You will also gain on-the-job experience working in an internship for an approved business or nonprofit organization. JCCC’s Accounting internship program allows you to apply the accounting principles and skills you learned in the classroom to real-world situations.
After completing over 60 credit hours, you will graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Accounting. You will also have a solid foundation to transfer to a four-year school of business if you choose.

Meet your general education requirements—even earn an Associate of Applied Science degree—and build a strong foundation in accounting principles before moving on to a four-year school and specialized field of study.
You may also decide to use your associate degree to pursue a career in business. You will be well prepared to be successful in various roles, including bookkeeping, accounts receivable and payable, or payroll.
The Accounting career program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). This accreditation makes it easier for students who wish to transfer to a four-year college accounting program.
