Work in our student-run media studios and gain experience using industry-standard cameras, recording soundboards, and film and photography editing equipment. Or, work with real business clients, advising them on public relations, marketing communications and social media campaigns.

Participate in local internship opportunities or immerse yourself in more in-depth learning with faculty-directed independent study. 

Even as a freshman at JCCC, get supervised on-the-job training while earning college credit at the same time. Former students say this experience is priceless and pointed them toward a career path they never would have discovered on their own.

Transfer the credits you earn in JCCC’s Journalism and Media Communications courses to most four-year programs. We work closely with nearby colleges and universities, such as the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, to ensure you have a smooth transition.

Take advantage of our transfer services if you choose to transfer to a bachelor’s degree program in journalism, media, communications studies, public relations or advertising.

Studying Journalism and Media Communications offers many career opportunities in news media, corporate communications, digital marketing and strategic communications. Recent JCCC graduates have worked in marketing management at Union Station KC, communications for ArtsKC, as television anchors, and as radio personalities on lcal stations.
