Animation at JCCC teaches you the art of drawing movement. From movies and television shows to commercials and video games, Animation is all around us.

What will I learn in JCCC's Animation program?

Art and technology merge to create your career in animation. Animation and special effects fuel award-winning movies, but did you know that animation skills are also widely used in the advertising, engineering, architecture and healthcare fields?

Introductory classes in Animation teach you essential, marketable skills, including:

  • Modeling
  • Rigging
  • Texturing
  • Digital sculpting
  • Character animation
  • Motion graphics
  • Visual effects
  • Compositing

Advanced Animation classes incorporate use of JCCC's 548-square-foot Motion Capture Studio. Sixteen cameras project infrared light onto markers on a special suit, and then those markers appear as coordinates within a powerful software program. The result is better animations in less time.

Are you thrilled with virtual and augmented reality and ready to learn the skills that create those worlds? JCCC has the software and hardware for that, too. Create your own virtual reality projects for your portfolio.

You'll complete your coursework by creating an independent animated production to add to your portfolio. Upon completing the 64 required credit hours, you'll earn your Animation-Entertainment and Game Art Design AAS from JCCC.

Why JCCC's Animation program?

Choose JCCC for Animation and gain access to the same cutting-edge software and hardware behind popular video games and blockbuster films. Realize your own artistic vision in both 2-D and 3-D environments, develop computer-generated models, and experiment with state-of-the-art technologies such as motion capture and virtual reality.

JCCC's Animation courses will allow you to discuss concepts such as character development with experienced professors and create a demo reel you can use to show off your skills. Our small class sizes allow you to have one-on-one time with highly qualified Animation instructors with experience in the field.

Learn about animation outside of the classroom as well. These clubs, part of the more than 80 student clubs and organizations at JCCC, meet to bring together students just like you:

Animation Club — a club for students who want to be animators or who appreciate animation

Anime and Manga Club – attend area Anime conventions and share your love of this Asian-style animation

Video Game Club – play a variety of game systems, from GameCube to virtual reality, and just hang out

The diversity of delivery methods and specialization will allow you to master a niche skillset. For example, if you want to work in film, concentrate on animation and tool techniques for movie studios or focus on a subset of film animation like character sculpting and texturing. You may seek jobs creating computer games, music videos and commercials.
