The mission of the Honors Program at Johnson County Community College is to embed academically motivated students in a challenging and supportive learning community emphasizing critical thinking, communication and social responsibility.

This will be accomplished by:

  • Promoting and supporting rich and engaging courses, as well as opportunities for original research, interdisciplinary study, community-based learning, and international experience.
  • Facilitating connections between Honors students, peers, professors, program staff, and the broader community.

The program allows students to:

  • explore new ideas
  • engage in creative activities
  • research areas of interest
  • sharpen skills
  • become independent learners
  • collaborate with experienced faculty

Honors courses are defined by small class size with an emphasis on critical thinking and are based on exploration and discussion of a variety of theories and perspectives.
