What will I learn?

Tech proficiency in software and hardware paired with people skills equals an in-demand computer support specialist.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Provide support to computer users and organizations
  • Diagnose systems for hardware and software issues
  • Solve information technology problems
  • Install, maintain and repair computer hardware, software and networks

First semester: A+ certificate

This entry-level computer certification for PC computer service technicians confirms you have professional competency in installing, maintaining, customizing and operating personal computers. The A+ certification is sponsored by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).

Second semester: Network+ and Security+ certificates

In your second semester you can earn your Network+ and, with just one extra class, Security+ certificates.

Network+ is a performance-based certification that helps you develop a career in IT infrastructure by validating the hands-on skills needed to troubleshoot, configure and manage both wired and wireless networks. You'll be able to:

  • Design and implement functional networks
  • Configure, manage and maintain essential network devices
  • Use devices such as switches and routers to segment network traffic and create resilient networks
  • Identify benefits and drawbacks of existing network configurations
  • Implement network security, standards and protocols
  • Troubleshoot network problems

Security+ certificate is respected industry-wide. It says you have mastered the skills and concepts to act as a foundation for cybersecurity – that you can think on your toes and quickly deduce the best next step. With the ever-changing cybersecurity environments, new devices require new security protocols daily. When you understand networking architecture, you can help mitigate the damage of cybersecurity attacks.
