What will I learn?

Gain critical skills for the built environment. You'll get hands-on experience as you survey both historical and contemporary architecture and complete projects that test your creativity.

The academic path begins with an introduction to architecture, progresses into architectural graphics, and then winds through classes in architectural history and design studios. In only 28 to 31 hours of architecture-specific classes, you’ll be ready to transfer to a four-year school.

JCCC offers the only transfer program in Kansas that carries you directly into the second year of an established university architecture program. Transfer to the University of Kansas School of Architecture and Design or the Drury University Hammons School of Architecture and continue building on your degree with no time or credits lost.

Students can transfer to other schools, too. Architecture alumni have graduated from Kansas State University, the University of Missouri-Kansas City and universities in Iowa, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas and more. In fact, students who complete their first year in the Architecture program at JCCC have an 85 percent graduation rate from four-year colleges and universities.

Why JCCC?

Professors within the department believe in letting you learn by doing. Projects constructed during your studio time allow you to apply what you’ve learned in the classroom. As you complete the curriculum, you’ll build on the masters to create your own perspective on homes, workplaces and community facilities.

Scholarships that reward architectural talent are distributed each spring to students who meet specific criteria. The awards, ranging from $100 to $2,000 each, may be used for tuition, books and architectural art supplies.
