Common questions about Phi Theta Kappa
To join, you must be currently enrolled and have completed 12 credit hours at JCCC. You must also have a 3.5 GPA. Invitations are sent after the drop deadline, or the 20th day of the semester.
- If you have questions about PTK requirements, email Anne Dotter at adotter@jccc.edu or stop by GEB 140.
- If you have been invited and have received your membership acceptance code, you can accept membership on the Phi Theta Kappa website.
Phi Theta Kappa is separate from the JCCC Honors Program, and joining PTK does not automatically enroll you in JCCC Honors. Eligible students are welcome to join both PTK and the Honors Program.
For more information on the Honors Program or to fill out an interest form, visit the JCCC Honors Program.
Nothing! Unlike the JCCC Honors Program, there are no required classes or experiences required to be a PTK member. Students are welcome to join based on your GPA alone and once a member, you can enjoy full access to the benefits of the program.
However, the more you put into PTK, the more you will get out of it! Being active in PTK makes you a better candidate for scholarships and can help build up your resume.
The Phi Theta Kappa Induction Ceremony happens once a semester to recognize new PTK members and formally induct them into our chapter. The PTK Induction Ceremony is voluntary, but many students love the opportunity to bring friends and family to celebrate your induction and meet fellow PTK members, officers, and advisors.
Yes! PTK offers exclusive regalia for members to wear at graduation such as pins, stoles, tassels, and more. Members will also get a PTK annotation on their diplomas.
The answer to this and many more questions can be found on the PTK page of the Honors blog!
