The Workforce Development & Continuing Education Scholarship Fund provides an opportunity for unemployed, underemployed or dislocated workers to get the training they need to gain meaningful employment in the workforce.

With more than $30,000 to award this year, we can make your training goals easier to achieve.

The WDCE Scholarship Committee requires a complete application package to review for determination. The following five items are required for a complete application.

  1. JCCC WDCE Scholarship Application Form
  2. Current resume
  3. Proof of financial need
    • FAFSA SAI
  4. Proof of eligibility
    • One of the following:
      • Proof of dislocated worker status
      • Proof of unemployment
      • Proof of underemployment
  5. Proof of residency

Step 1

Complete, sign and submit the JCCC WDCE Scholarship Application Form.

Step 2

Complete and/or update your resume.

Step 3

Complete the Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This will be used to determine financial need.

  • Go to the FAFSA website.
  • Complete the online application. The JCCC Federal School Code is 008244.
  • After completing this online process, in three to five business days you will receive an email with your SAR (Student Aid Report). This report will show your status for funding with your Student Aid Index (SAI). Save this report to include as your supporting documentation to your JCCC WDCE Scholarship Application Form.
  • If you need additional help, you can go to the Student Success Center located on the second floor of the Student Center on the JCCC campus.

Step 4

Compile proof of eligibility. Acceptable documents, choose one:

  • For proof of dislocated worker status (choose one)
    • Letter from workforce center (dated within the last 30 days)
    • Letter from previous employer (dated within the last 30 days)
  • For proof of unemployment (choose one)
    • Letter from State Department of Labor Unemployment Division (current)
    • Paystub from State Department of Labor Unemployment Division (current)
  • For proof of underemployment (choose one)
    • Pay stub showing gross salary </= $45,000

Step 5

Compile proof of residency. Choose one:

  • State-issued driver's license
  • State-issued ID card
  • Utility bill (current)
  • Bank statement (current)
  • Lease agreement (current)
  • Others on a case-by-case basis

Step 6

Email your resume, FAFSA SAI, proof of eligibility, proof of residency to Dorothy Helm or send via mail system to:

Scholarship awards are dependent upon the availability of funding and will be awarded on the basis of need and merit of the applicant. To be approved for a JCCC Workforce Development & Continuing Education scholarship your application must demonstrate:

  1. Merit – Merit is evaluated from the responses to the questions on the JCCC WDCE application questions.
  2. Desired training from a WDCE eligible certificate or certification program and ability to meet the criteria for admission into the program of choice.
  3. Financial need – Financial need is determined by subtracting the SAI from the Cost of Attendance. Note: If the financial need exceeds the cost of attendance, financial need will equate to the cost of attendance.

  4. To qualify for the WDCE scholarship, applicants must meet one of the eligibility criteria listed above. In addition, residency status will be evaluated based on location in the following funding priorities:
    • Johnson County residents
    • Kansas residents
    • Greater Kansas City Metro Region (MO counties – Cass, Clay, Jackson)
    • Residents of other states (reviewed on a case-by-case basis)

Scholarship applications will be reviewed on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month. Please allow time for processing.
