JCCC students could put some cash in their pocket and get recognition for their writing!
Please review contest guidelines before submitting. Only one submission per student.
The Hare & Bell Writing Contest accepts submissions of academic writing annually. Monetary prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be awarded. Contest winners will be announced during the 2026 Cavalier Conference on Writing & Literature. Please see the following guidelines for the contest:
- Must be a current JCCC student to enter
- Submissions must be academic pieces of writing written for JCCC classes, but can be from any discipline. While many different types of writing can qualify as “academic,” academic writing typically:
- Forwards an argument or perspective and supports that with relevant evidence, references, and/or narrative
- Is clearly organized
- Uses formal language and style
- Submissions should not be more than 5,000 words.
- Files submitted should be free of any identifying information (Your name, names of relatives, professor name, etc.).
- Only one submission per student. When making your submission, please make sure to attach the correct file and final draft. We will not accept multiple submissions or read multiple drafts.
- All communication about Hare & Bell will be conducted via your JCCC stumail account, so please keep an eye on it.
The deadline for the contest is Friday, March 6, 2026, at 4:59 p.m. Entries submitted after this time will not be accepted. After submitting your entry, you will get an email that will serve as confirmation that it has been received. Please keep this for your records.
