AAC tutoring program

As a JCCC student, you can receive free weekly individualized tutoring all semester in any or all of your courses through the Academic Achievement Center’s Tutoring Program. For up to 90 minutes a week per course, you can work with an AAC tutor on course content and basic college study skills (when available).

If you are interested in requesting tutoring assistance in a course for the entire semester, fill out a Scheduled Tutoring Request Form.

  • All tutoring requests are fulfilled on a first-come, first-served basis. The College works to meet every tutoring request, but the ability to meet each request depends on tutor availability as well as appropriate student response and communication.

If you have questions about the AAC Tutoring Program or a concern about your current AAC tutoring situation, email the AAC Tutor Coordinator.

AAC workshops

Before you take JCCC’s ACCUPLACER test to ensure you register for the right classes, visit the AAC online or in person to prepare for the test. We use an online training and skill-improvement software system to help identify areas that you need to review. Visit or contact the AAC to set up your account. Once your account is set up, you may work independently on the review from any computer with internet access.

AAC faculty and staff are always available during AAC operating hours to answer questions and provide additional instruction and resources. They can help you set up a personal study plan, find opportunities to practice on the computer, and provide ongoing feedback as you work the program. Improve your score and save time and money!

Email the AAC at to make an appointment, or call 913-469-3320.

Are you new to JCCC or college in general? Are you really ready for the start of classes?

Sign up for a Smart Start session – a short academic orientation that teaches you how to manage your study schedule, navigate JCCC and get your best start to college!

At the Smart Start Academic Orientation, you will:

  1. Get help navigating JCCC and your classes
  2. Learn to be organized
  3. Create a study schedule
  4. Log in to your student email and Canvas

Plan to spend 45 minutes in your Smart Start session, which will be at the top of every hour in the AAC (with an appointment at least 24 hours prior to your workshop).

Sign up for a Smart Start session one of three ways:

After you receive your grade on any test you've taken, drop by the AAC (LIB, first floor) to have one of our Learning Specialists analyze your test errors. You’ll work one-on-one with a professional to look at your answers, determine what you did incorrectly, and identify ways to improve.
