OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – At Johnson County Community College, we take pride in preparing students for the workforce through our many degree and certificate options. The JCCC Hospitality and Culinary program offers renowned instruction and produces career-ready professionals in two years or less. The hospitality industry is one of the largest private employers in the United States, and we are committed to meeting current workforce needs for our students.

One way we’re staying on the cutting edge is by hosting the fifth annual High School Culinary Team Competition on Feb. 7, 2020.

High school teams are encouraged to register to hone their culinary skills and prepare for a high-demand career. Each participating team will spend several months preparing and practicing before competing in this intensive daylong event at JCCC's Wylie Hospitality and Culinary Academy (WHCA). Teams will create two identical meals — one for display and one for the judges to taste — that include a starter, entrée with protein, vegetable, starch and dessert. Teams must also demonstrate essential culinary knowledge and basic kitchen skills to showcase their creative abilities.

Registration is available through Dec. 1. All participants will receive a free T-shirt, and members of the “Best in Show” winning team will be awarded a JCCC scholarship. Additional awards will be announced later.

Email Edward Adel or call him at 913-469-8500, ext. 3916 to register.
