Helping students be successful: that’s our mission

We are proud of the support we provide our students at JCCC. Annually, the JCCC Foundation partners with private donors – just like YOU – to award more than $1.4 million in scholarships to our students.

In this day of high inflation, costs for childcare and transportation, and lost income from time spent in class instead of at work, college gets expensive and every penny counts.

Scholarships help students with financial challenges continue their education. You can make a difference for JCCC students.

Consider these options:

There are two primary ways to fund scholarships through the Foundation.

1. Endowed scholarships

The endowed scholarship, because of its perpetual nature, is one of the most popular instruments used by donors. For an endowed scholarship, a donor makes a sizable donation to the College. The donation establishes an endowment fund with the JCCC Foundation. The invested funds grow each year, and the proceeds fund a scholarship.

For example, a $25,000 endowment with a projected 5 percent payout will provide approximately $1,250 a year. Over time, the amount made available for scholarships increases as the size of the endowment grows. Donors also may choose to add to the scholarship each year to increase the size of the award. Contact Joy Ginsburg or Stephanie Sullens if you are interested in setting up an endowed scholarship.

2. Annual scholarships

A donor can also make a donation and request that the JCCC Foundation distribute the entire amount during the first year or over a predetermined number of years. For example, a donor can make a $10,000 donation to fund an annual $2,500 scholarship for four years.

This approach can provide a larger scholarship, but only over the stated period of time. When the money runs out, the scholarship is no longer available unless the donor chooses to make more donations.

This type of scholarship allows the donor to make annual donations to ensure the scholarship's ongoing availability.
