From English to entrepreneurship, JCCC helped Ana María Marmolejo carve her own path.
Several years ago, Ana María Marmolejo arrived in Kansas as an international student, ready to learn English. JCCC was highly recommended to her by family and friends, so she took the plunge and enrolled as a Cavalier.
What started as a desire to learn another language quickly grew into multiple educational and career opportunities. After mastering English, she took French and German language classes, in addition to her areas of study. She also found time to work on campus in the Student Life department and in Academic Affairs.
Today, Ana María is a Cavalier twice over, with two JCCC associate degrees, Marketing Management and Fashion Merchandising and Marketing.
“JCCC has helped me develop multiple skills, both as a student and as a person,” said Ana María.
JCCC helps you discover your passion
After graduating, Ana María began her first foray into the world of marketing, earning a position at a multinational company as an account representative.
“It was a great experience that allowed me to develop valuable professional skills and gain insight into the business world,” she said.
With ambitions for the next step of her career taking shape, Ana María decided to return to school. She is currently pursuing her third JCCC degree, an Associate of Fine Arts.
“I have always been passionate about creativity and visual expression,” said Ana María. “My goal is to combine my business, marketing, and artistic skills to eventually create my own business.”

Ana María’s wide range of interests were an ideal fit for the resources JCCC provides. She encourages incoming Cavaliers to explore everything the College has to offer.
“Academically, there is free tutoring at the Academic Resource Center, she said. “To enjoy college life, attend Student Life events on campus. To foster a sense of belonging and community, join clubs and organizations. And before you leave, make sure to visit the Career Development Center, which can help you build your resume, improve your LinkedIn profile, and prepare for job interviews.”
With her time as a Cavalier coming to an end, Ana María is excited to cultivate the creative passions she developed at JCCC.
“I have a versatile background spanning international commerce, financial operations, marketing, fashion, and beauty,” she said. “I am deeply passionate about creating visual concepts that communicate ideas and bring messages to life through makeup artistry and creative campaigns.”
