CLEAR students who attend expansion classes learn life skills necessary for independent living while building strong friendships along the way.

Each class meets for one hour per week for 14 weeks each semester. Students attending weekday classes are learning independent living skills and are responsible for getting to their classrooms on their own. While on campus, students are encouraged to participate in other JCCC activities before or after class.

All students must meet attendance criteria. Students new to the program must call the CLEAR office to set up an appointment for an enrollment interview. For an interview, call the CLEAR office at 913-469-3247.

Students may attend classes in one of two ways, independently or through their 18-21 post high program. Those attending independently will receive enrollment sent directly to them each semester. For those attending with a post high, high school transition staff will assist students in registering for CLEAR expansion classes and may also provide information about academic achievement classes, lifetime fitness programs and other campus activities. CLEAR expansion class enrollment is processed through the CLEAR office. Registration for all other credit or non-credit classes is done through the regular JCCC enrollment process.

Fall 2020 Session Dates and Calendar

Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 15-Dec. 10, 2020

Important Fall 2020 Dates

  • Sept. 8 — Registration ends
  • Sept. 15 — First day of Expansion classes
  • Nov. 24 and 26 — No classes (Thanksgiving week)
  • Dec. 10 — Last day of Expansion classes
  1. Registrations will be accepted in the CLEAR office until Sept. 8, 2020.  It is highly suggested that students participating independently send in their registration form as soon as possible.  Registrations are processed in the order in which they are received.  Registrations can be mailed, faxed or e-mailed to the contact information below.
  2. Students may choose to participate in classes either online via Zoom, in-person or a hybrid of both. Enclosed you will find a listing of protocols that will be in place for face to face classes. Course links for online courses will be sent to students via their official JCCC e-mail only.  Instructions for setting up your e-mail account will be sent with student schedules.
  3. Due to social distancing requirements, in-person class sizes will be limited. As such, students may initially ONLY enroll in 4 class periods total. If you are interested in more than 4 classes, please call the CLEAR office on Sept. 8, 2020, and remaining available space will be released on a first come, first served basis.
  4. Please rank all classes in your chosen time period by marking them with a 1, 2 or 3 in the blanks. This assists us in choosing the right class for you if your first and second choices are full at the time of your enrollment.
  5. Please see the enclosed information form for the Certificate Tracks program information. If you previously selected a track, you will automatically continue in that program without reselecting a track.
  6. The general registration fee is $5 per course. Registrations should be sent without payment, but fees must be paid by the first day of class. Total fees due will be indicated on the student’s class schedule. New students cannot receive their JCCC ID card until payment is made and processed (generally 2-3 days after payment is received.)
  7. Students must be 18-26 years old and Kansas residents. Students are eligible to enroll in and complete the semester in which they turn 27, so long as they are still 26 at the time of enrollment.
  8. Applications for the Vocational Training Program were made available in March and only students who applied and were accepted may enroll in the Vocational Training courses. Students who were accepted have been e-mailed at this time.
  9. In the event that face to face classes must be canceled or altered due to virus concerns, those courses will be switched to an online format.
  10. New students must schedule an interview with the CLEAR program Manager, Courtney Barden, by calling 913-469-3247 or emailing at clear@jccc.edu. Students must interview and be accepted before their classes begin, but may submit enrollment before their interview occurs. Acceptance into the program is based upon the student demonstrating that they meet the entrance criteria, located on our webpage: www.jccc.edu/clear
