Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Math

Class Format

Face-to-face sections will include instructor led, whole class discussion of topics covered.  Students are encouraged to participate.  Class note shells will be provided for students.  These will include formulas, methodology, and examples to be worked together during class discussions.

Resource Use

Textbooks will be used for homework assignments and as a resource for student learning.  No online homework will be assigned.

Calculators are used in every course.  In Math 171 and above, a graphing calculator is required.  In any other course, a scientific calculator is sufficient.

Computer software is typically not used.  The exception is the use of MyMathTest during the first two weeks of an ARC course.  Students enrolled in an ARC course will be expected to spend at least 18 hours using the software both in and outside of class during this time period.  This software program will be available to students online.  After the first two weeks of an ARC course, the course format will return to the face-to-face format described above.

Assessment

Students will be given Homework Quizzes every class period.  The questions on these quizzes will include problems taken directly from the homework assigned during the previous class.  Students will work on these quizzes with a partner during the first 10 minutes of class.

There will be 5 or 6 unit tests worth approximately 75% of the course grade and a final exam worth approximately 12% of the course grade.

Homework Policy

Homework is collected every class period.  Homework is worth half of the points on the homework quizzes.  If you are absent from class, the missing assignment may be turned in the following class period.  However, the quiz questions from the missed class period may not be made up.

Attendance Policy

Your absence may affect your grade because of your subsequent lack of knowledge and understanding.  However, absences are not part of the grading formula.  Makeup unit exams are not given after the exam date.  The final exam percentage will replace one missed unit exam.

Availability

I am not usually on campus during the day.  However, I am available 30 minutes before (or for any necessary time after) evening or weekend classes.   Responses to emails normally occur within 12 hours, but possibly longer on weekends.
