Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.
Math
Class Format
Face-to-face sections:
It is a mixed format that includes lectures, individual practice, and group work. A typical class begins with a brief review of key concepts of the last class. After that, new material is presented, allowing plenty of time for individual and/or group practice.
Resource Use
Textbook:
Textbooks are offered online. The publisher’s software contains the complete multimedia textbook, instructional videos, and homework assignments.
Supplies:
Scientific calculators (e.g., TI-30) and graphing calculators (e.g., TI-84) may be used, depending on the class. Also, you need a notebook to take notes and to do exercises during our classes.
Online homework:
There is signed online homework.
Assessment
Grades are based on three or four tests, daily in-class assignments, online homework, and a comprehensive final exam.
Homework Policy
Online homework will be assigned for every section, and homework submitted after the due date will be a 20% or 25% late penalty.
Attendance Policy
If you miss class, then you will miss the points which you would otherwise have earned from a graded in-class assignment. Each student will be assigned to a seating chart after the first week of class; this will help me to learn your names and to return in-class assignments promptly.
Availability
My office hours will be offered in person at my office, or on Zoom. Other times are available by appointment and please send me an email within your Canvas to make an appointment.
Additional Information
Learning math isn’t just about sitting in class, watching the teacher, and waiting for problems to be solved. It’s also not just about reading the problems — it’s about doing them. That’s why you’ll have plenty of chances to practice similar problems during class. If you ever have a math question, please don’t hesitate to ask! Asking questions is a win-win win. You gain better understanding, and I learn how to help you succeed even more. Remember, learning math also takes practice outside of class, so be sure to spend time working on problems on your own too.
