Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Math

Class Format

Face-to-face classes:  Classes begin with students having the opportunity to ask homework questions.   Then students use provided class notes to work sample problems that are worked and displayed on the classroom screen.  Students are encouraged to participate by asking and answering questions.  Sometimes students are assigned problems in class and I walk around to help them.

Resource Use

Textbooks supplement the lecture with similar example problems and explanations.  Homework problems from the textbook are assigned and graded.

Calculators are used in every course.  For Math 111, 115, 116 a scientific calculator is needed.  For Math 120, a financial calculator is required.

Computer software, whenever needed, will be available for student use in the Math Resource Center.  In Math 120, MS Excel will be used.  In Math 111, 115, and 116, students can access Interactmath.com to reference problems from their textbooks.  Tutorial videos are available on that website.

Online homework is not required.

Assessment

Most classes have homework in some form, unit reviews, 4 to 6 unit exams, and a final exam.  Math 120 will also have spreadsheet assignments.  Approximately 75% of the grade will be determined by the unit and final exams, and 25% by the homework and other material in the course.

Homework Policy

Late work is NOT accepted.  Generally one late review is accepted with “late coupon.”

Attendance Policy

Your absence may affect your grade because of your subsequent lack of knowledge and understanding.  However, absences are NOT part of the grading formula.  Make-up unit exams are not given after the exam date.  Generally, the final exam percentage will replace lowest test score.

Availability

I am available before and after my classes or by appointment.
