Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.
Math
Class Format
Typical Class Format - All classes are taught as Face-to-face sections using a mixed lecture and individual practice. A typical class will begin with a small summary of the material covered in the last lecture. After that, new material is presented.
Resource Use
Textbooks are required for my courses, as this is where the students will complete their chapter reading and view their homework assignments. Online homework will typically not be used in my courses.
Calculators are used to supplement learning. The appropriate use of calculators is discussed in many contexts. For MATH 171 and above, a graphing calculator like the TI-83 or TI-84 is highly recommended. A scientific calculator is sufficient for all other classes below MATH 171.
Computer software is not used in my courses.
Assessment
Typically, a student’s grade will be composed of scores on quizzes, unit exams, and the final exam.
Homework Policy
For courses like MATH 171 and above, textbook homework is assigned for practice but is rarely checked. However, in these courses, other assignments may be collected for a grade.
Attendance Policy
Students should expect that any missed class time will result in an incomplete understanding of the material. This, in turn, may adversely affect grades. However, attendance is not used in grade calculation. To be fair to all students, no exams may be taken before or after the scheduled exam date due to absence. However, the final exam score may be used as a replacement for the lowest unit exam score if it is lower than the final exam score.
