Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Math

Class Format

Face-to-face sections

My classes are in a lecture format with as much interaction as possible.  I occasionally give classwork assignments so that students can work on a set of problems with their classmates while I circulate to make sure everyone has grasped the material.  I use note packets extensively to make note-taking easier.

Resource Use

Textbooks Usually optional

Calculators Used in every course.  Scientific calculators are typically sufficient, but a graphing calculator is required for MATH 171 and above.

Computer software Used sparingly.

Online homework Used in every course.

Assessment

Grades are assigned based on performance on homework, classwork, typically three exams and a cumulative final.  Students in some classes will also be required to complete projects.  I replace the lowest test score with the grade received on the final, if it is beneficial to the student.

Homework Policy

I like to use online homework when possible.  This allows students the freedom to complete the assignment wherever and whenever they are able, and receive immediate feedback.  Since I always use online homework, there is a due date for every assignment.  However, if a student wants to work on an assignment late, they will only be penalized 10%.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is not mandatory, but strongly encouraged.  Every missed class is missed material which will be evaluated on homework and tests.

Availability

I am available through email and in my office before and after class.  I encourage students to schedule an appointment with me for other times.
