Math

Class Format

Typical Class Format – I teach most of my classes face-to-face, using a mix of interactive lecture, individual practice, and group work format.

Resource Use

Textbooks – Since I use online homework whenever possible, you will get free access to the e-book with most homework software. I do not require a physical copy of the text.

Calculators – They may be used to supplement the learning. For many courses you will be allowed to use a scientific calculator.

Computer software – You will need access to a computer for every course, where I use online homework.

Online homework – I use online homework in almost every course I teach. This will give you access to the e-book and helpful videos and other resources for learning the material. You will also get instant feedback on every problem.

Assessment

Typically, a student’s grade will be composed of scores on homework, in class work (including group work and quizzes), exams, and the final exam.

Homework Policy

I usually do not accept late homework to keep you on track. However, I will assign each assignment days in advance of the due date. The only way to learn mathematics, is to practice, and homework is the best opportunity to do so.

Attendance Policy

Students should expect that any missed class time will result in an incomplete understanding of the material. This, in turn, may adversely affect grades. In addition, missing class may lead to missing the daily problem, which could lower your grade. To be fair to all students, no make-up exams will be given. If the student has a well-documented reason for missing an exam (that I find acceptable), the final exam score will take the place of the missing exam score. Otherwise, the student will have a zero for the missing exam. If you miss class, it is your responsibility to get the notes and information covered from another student, carefully study it and come to my office hours with questions. I will not repeat lectures.
