Class Format
All classes are divided into units. During the fall and spring semesters one unit will be covered each week. During a summer session two units will be covered each week.
- On-campus: The first half of a class meeting will generally be used to present new material. The second half of the class will often be reserved for practice problems and group work. On some days the second half of class will be used to conduct a quiz.
- Online: Video recordings and pdf slides of the lectures will be provided. For online classes designated ONOSE the student will need to come to compass to complete exams at a designated time.
Resource Use
Textbooks are optional for all courses except for Math 246. For all courses lecture notes will be provided.
Calculators: Only “scientific” calculators (non-graphing) are permitted on quizzes and exams.
Computers: For online classes students will require access to a windows or mac computer that has a webcam and a reliable internet connection.
Homework: For most classes homework is assigned through canvas and does not require any additional fee. Math 246 requires the use of a third party service to complete the homework and the associated fee will be added directly to the student’s tuition.
Assessment
Each week of class will include either a quiz or an exam. The student’s performance on these tests will make up the bulk of their course grade. The lowest quiz score will be dropped. If a student misses an exam due to an illness or emergency then the Final Exam score will be used to replace the missing exam.
Homework Policy
Homework will be presented as Problem Sets to be completed online and each unit will have one or more associated problem sets. In most cases problem sets may be submitted late with no deduction up to the last day of Finals week, however in order to perform well on quizzes and exams it is important to compete the problem sets by the indicated due date.
