Josias Gomez
Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Josias Gomez is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics whose teaching and research are deeply rooted in a commitment to student-centered learning and educational equity. He is currently completing his Ph.D. in Mathematics at the University of Memphis, where his research focuses on Extremal Graph Theory and Combinatorics, particularly Almost Strongly Regular Graphs and Erdö-Ko-Rado type problems. He also holds a Master of Science in Mathematics from the University of Memphis and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from King University.
Gomez’s academic journey is marked by a passion for both pure mathematics and mathematics education. His research contributions include work on Ramsey and Graph theory and undergraduate mathematics education, with multiple presentations at regional and national conferences such as MAA-SE Sectional Meeting, RUME, the AMS-AWM Student Research Symposium and the MAA’s MathFest. He is also a published author in journals such as PRIMUS and Congressus Numerantium.
In the classroom, Josias Gomez is known for his dynamic and inclusive teaching style. His philosophy centers on the belief that students learn best when they feel seen, supported, and engaged. He is dedicated to creating a welcoming environment where all students can thrive and develop both academically and personally.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Gomez brings a multicultural and multilingual perspective to his work. He has extensive experience in mentoring, curriculum development, and professional development for educators. Outside of academia, he is actively involved in community service, including co-founding Happy Tails Canine Rescue, a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating dogs.
