Azadeh Rafizadeh
Assistant Professor of Mathematics

I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. I immigrated to the United States when I was twenty years old and started my higher education journey, as a first-generation college student, at a community college in California: Santa Monica College. As a woman raised in a traditional culture and family, I was not supposed to be interested in a male-dominated field such as pure mathematics. However, I fell in love with the subject and decided to pursue it. Against all obstacles, I earned my Ph.D. in pure mathematics in 2011.
