Understanding the basic physiology of plant species is essential to manipulate the growing conditions required to propagate, cultivate, and manage high-value crops, as every plant matters.  

This 31-credit hour certificate teaches you how to grow any plant, native or non-native, and the best management practices for pest control and protecting valuable natural resources. Learn by doing and working in both controlled settings and in the field.

One-of-a-kind certificate program in the Kansas City area

Courses at JCCC include a mix of science and technology. In one year, earn a certificate in horticulture sciences through face-to-face, hybrid, and online teachings. Learn in three greenhouses, a plant propagation room, and a work center head house.  

Get involved in the JCCC’s Horticulture Sciences Student Association, the Hort Club. Hort Club members gain leadership and interpersonal skills by growing and selling plants to support Horticultural Sciences student scholarships  

Continue one more year and earn your Horticulture Science, AAS. You may also choose to transfer many of your JCCC credit hours to Kansas State University, or other universities, to pursue a bachelor’s degree or even a master’s degree.
