What will I learn about Electronics Technology at JCCC?

At JCCC, you will become well-equipped for a career as an electronics technician and gain experience working on highly technical systems, equipment and circuitry. Your hands-on training will teach you how to fabricate, install, operate and troubleshoot machines and equipment. Through interactive coursework, you will learn about various types of technology including computers, robotics, light sensors, appliances, lasers and detection, control and communication systems.

You will begin the Electronics Technology program with an Introduction to Electronics course, which covers electronics theory and principles, and the uses of basic equipment. JCCC’s Electronics Technology courses incorporate labs so you learn how to apply your knowledge in real-world scenarios.

In JCCC's Electronics Technology program, you will:

  • Gain a broad view of electronics systems
  • Focus on the principles of electronic devices, circuit analysis and digital electronics
  • Work on the latest equipment in the lab
  • Take up to three electives about lasers (a specialty in high demand across the country), computers or other specialties

To get a broad foundation in electronics, you will take credit hours in courses like robotics, lasers, microprocessors, semiconductors and computer networking and hardware. A programming and math background with exemplary algebra skills is recommended.

Your Electronics Technology courses also prepare you for the International Society of Certified Electronics Technicians (ISCET) certification exam, which is not required, but it can give you an advantage over other job candidates.

Why JCCC for Electronics Technology?

You will find that there are many advantages to pursuing your Electronics Technology education at JCCC. Electronics Technology courses are taught by experienced faculty in small classes for more individualized instruction. You can also choose from day and evening classes to fit your busy schedule.

JCCC’s Electronics Technology program offers two routes: a certificate or an associate degree.

  • Electronics Technology Certificate: In JCCC’s Electronics Technology certificate program, you will take a range of courses over a year, adding up to 33 credit hours. After these credits are complete, you will earn a certificate which you can take into the workforce or apply towards an associate degree.
  • Associate of Applied Science in Electronics Technology: The associate degree program for Electronics Technology will dive deeper into topics on circuits, systems and more. After completing 64 hours of coursework, you will graduate with an Electronics Technology AAS degree.

As an electronics technician, you can work in a variety of career fields, such as:

  • Navigation systems
  • Computer repair
  • Automotive technology, parts, or sales
  • Medical equipment installation and repair
  • Aviation electronics
  • Alarm and fire system installation and maintenance

As products and tools become more automated and complex, technicians who can easily troubleshoot and quickly make accurate repairs are in great demand.
