Train to become a licensed instructor of cosmetology sciences and meet the education requirements for licensure by the Kansas Board of Cosmetology.

Enrollment in this program requires Kansas state licensure in Cosmetology, Esthetics or Nail Technology and a minimum of one year of verified practice in the field.

What will I learn?

This program provides 300 contact hours— comprised of 60 hours of lecture and 240 hours of observation, clinic supervision and classroom teaching. Topics covered include instructor characteristics, student motivation, methods and evaluation.

Upon completion, you’ll be prepared to take a written exam through the Kansas State Board of Cosmetology. KBOC will issue you a professional license if you pass the written exam with a 75% or higher.

  • Program consists of 4 lecture hours each week, plus 12-16 hours per week in cosmetology, nail technology and esthetic program classrooms and clinic.

  • Serving others is part of our philosophy; every April the salon is exclusively open to the Down Syndrome Guild and offers free hair, skin and nail services for prom.

Metro cosmetology schools are seeking JCCC-trained, licensed instructors. With today’s focus on looking and feeling healthy, the cosmetology industry is one of the fastest growing in the country. Jobs for licensed cosmetologists are expected to grow by 8 percent by 2028, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
