The Cosmetology, Esthetics and Nail Technology programs have departmental requirements for admission.

You must complete a general admission application to JCCC. If you have taken classes within the last two years at JCCC, you are not required to reapply for general admission.

You will NOT be able to select “Cosmetology” as your major when applying to JCCC or when completing a Change of Major form. Your major will be updated automatically if you are accepted into the program.

Prior to being accepted, you may declare “Liberal Arts” as your major. A Liberal Arts major is eligible for financial aid. If you select “Non-Degree-Seeking” as your major, you will not be eligible for federal financial aid.

Complete the program application for your selected program: Cosmetology, Esthetics or Nail Technology.

Summer and Fall 2021 Programs

If you want to apply for the summer 2021 Nail Technology program, fall 2021 Full-time Esthetics program, or fall 2021 Cosmetology program, you will need to complete an online program application.

The online application process will open Dec. 16. The deadline is March 1, 2021

You will not be able to complete a program application after March 1, 2021 and therefore will not be considered for the program. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Cosmetology department.

To be considered for a program in the Cosmetology Department, you must meet at least one of the following:

  • ENGL 121, RDG 126, LC 126 with a grade of C or higher
  • ACT Composite Score of 19 or higher
  • ACCUPLACER Next Generation Reading Exam score of 227 or higher
  • ACCUPLACER Classic Reading Exam score of 40 or higher
  • COMPASS Reading Exam score of 64 or higher

Qualifying course exam scores must be on file with the Admissions Office. Course grades and placement exam scores taken at JCCC are automatically uploaded to your account. If any of these courses or exams are completed at an accredited college other than JCCC, you must have your transcript sent to the Admissions Office prior to the application deadline.

Only exams taken within the last five years can be considered. The ACCUPLACER Next Generation Reading Exam is offered in Testing Services located on JCCC's main campus. There is no charge or appointment needed to take the exam. You will be required to provide current photo identification such as a JCCC ID, driver’s license, military ID or Kansas State ID prior to taking the test. Once the exam is complete, your score will be uploaded to your JCCC student account.

For more information, please contact Testing Services directly at 913-469-4439 or online at Testing Services.

Transcripts/GED Scores

Submit all high school transcripts or GED scores to the Admissions Office. Transcripts must be an official copy sent directly from the issuing institution. All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by Educational Credential Evaluators Inc. (ECE). The Kansas State Board of Cosmetology will not accept evaluations from any other company. Contact ECE directly at 414-289-3400 or online at www.ece.org. The Cosmetology department cannot accept transcripts.

Interview Process

Once you've completed the application process, you are required to attend an interview with the Program Facilitator before being admitted.

You are only eligible for an interview if you have completed the program application process in full.

If you qualify for this step, we will send information regarding program interviews by email shortly after the application deadline.

It is your responsibility to verify that the contact information on file with the Cosmetology Department is accurate. You must attend the program interview to be considered. The interview process involves a review of industry knowledge and personal characteristics relevant to success both in the program and post-graduation.
