The Cosmetology, Esthetics and Nail Technology programs have departmental requirements for admission.

For more information on our Cosmetology, Esthetics and Nail Technology programs, you can request an information packet for the programs you're interested in. Please request an information packet by emailing Jane Webb, Administrative Assistant, Cosmetology.


  • ACT composite score of 19 or higher
  • ENGL 121 (Composition I) or RDG 126 (Academic Reading) with a grade of C or higher
  • AccuPlacer Reading Exam score of 40 or higher.

You can take the AccuPlacer Reading Exam in the Testing Center on the main campus. There is no charge or appointment needed for the exam. For more information or for questions regarding the exam, call the Testing Center at 913-469-4439.

If you have taken the Compass Reading Exam within the past five years and scored a 64 or higher, you can use that as a qualifying prerequisite. 

The Cosmetology department does not accept ESL AccuPlacer or Compass scores.

Application Process

1. Complete the online application for JCCC general admissionStudents will NOT be able to select Cosmetology, Esthetics or Nail Technology as their major. Majors will be updated if you are accepted into the programs after interviews have been completed.

2. Complete the paper application for the appropriate program.

3. Submit one of the qualifying prerequisite scores to the JCCC Admissions Office.

4. If you need financial aid for the Cosmetology or Esthetics program, visit the Financial Aid Office

5. Submit high school transcripts or GED scores to the Admissions office. Transcripts need to come directly from the issuing institution and must be in a sealed envelope. All foreign transcripts must be evaluated by Educational Credential Evaluators Inc. (ECE). The Kansas State Board of Cosmetology will not accept evaluations from any other company. Contact ECE directly at 414-289-3400 or online at The Cosmetology department cannot accept transcripts.
