What will I learn About Automotive Technology at JCCC?
At Johnson County Community College, our Automotive Technology program offers courses in the eight core areas of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. ASE is the industry-backed national organization that certifies automobile technicians.
Eight core areas:
- Brakes
- Steering and suspension
- Electrical
- Engine performance
- Automatic transmissions
- Manual transmissions
- Heating and air conditioning
- Engine repair
Available electives:
- Small gas engines
- Hybrid electric vehicles
- Diesel fundamentals
You can develop the practical skills you need to fix vehicles. Our Automotive Technology classes will also teach you skills like customer relations, materials and labor cost estimation, and workforce management, which are needed to advance to a supervisory position.
You can choose from three education paths in our Automotive Technology program:
- Associate of Applied Science in Automotive Technology: Accredited by the National Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation, this path allows you to learn about all major areas of automotive technology. After completing over 60 credit hours of courses, you will earn an associate degree and be prepared for a successful career as an automotive technician.
- Automotive Technology Maintenance and Light Repair Certificate: Automobile technicians who perform maintenance and light repair services can receive specialized training through this certificate program. In 26 hours of course training, you will increase your technical knowledge of maintenance and minor repairs.
- Automotive Technology Repair Certificate: This two-year certificate program is for automotive technicians who perform basic diagnostic and repair services. You will gain further training in automotive technology through hands-on courses and on-the-job experience.

Automotive Technology Transfer Agreement
Make use of our transfer agreement with the University of Central Missouri, where all your courses apply toward an Automotive Technology Management degree. With transferable credits from either your certificate or associate degree, you will be well on your way to earning a Bachelor of Science in Automotive Technology Management.

Our Automotive Technology advisory board is made up of industry experts who can provide you with advice and guidance throughout your time at JCCC and beyond.
Automotive Technology Program Accreditation
JCCC’s Automotive Technology program is accredited by the ASE Education Foundation at the Master Automotive Service Technician level. Upon graduating, you will have the background to take and pass the A1-A8 and G1 ASE exams.
College Now program for Automotive Technology
If you are still in high school in Olathe or Lawrence, get college credit through the College Now program. If you are a student at the Olathe Advanced Technical Center, up to nine of your courses will count toward your certification or degree at JCCC.
