Updated Federal Requirements
JCCC will continue with JCAE programs to serve qualified individuals. In response to current Federal requirements, starting July 28, 2025, students will be required to present the most recent documentation of their current US citizenship or immigration status as part of the course registration process. Students interested in attending JCAE classes should bring their Real ID, birth certificate, U.S. passport, or immigration documents when they register. Visit the US Citizenship and Immigration Services website for a list of commonly used immigration documents.
Whether you speak a little English or no English, we offer free English Language Learning (formerly ESL) classes at Johnson County Community College at the level for you.
- Complete intake form before noon on Jan. 6.
- Enrollment process held Jan. 12-23 (details emailed after intake completed).
- Classes start Feb. 2 and 3.

Join us for Adult Education ELL courses at JCCC
ELL classes are available for:
- Adults 18 years or older who are verified and qualified
- Must live in the Kansas City metro area
- Must be able to attend class in person
Expectations for all students:
- Attend classes regularly.
- Be in class on time.
- Complete 2 hours of homework each week.
- Pay a non-refundable book and materials fee.
- Be in class on the first day of class.
- Be in class on the last day of class.
- Complete intake form, attend verification, testing, orientation, and placement.
Johnson County Adult Education (JCAE) empowers English Language Learners (ELLs) through a comprehensive curriculum designed to build language proficiency, digital literacy, civic engagement, and workplace readiness.
