Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Math

Class Format

Face-to-face sections are typically moderately-paced, whole group sessions with an emphasis on conceptual understanding.  Computational examples, applications, and theory are also included.  Students are encouraged to participate.

Online sections textbooks, with videos in a most sections.  The online homework is based on mastery.  Deadlines are enforced.  Most communication with the instructor will be by email.

Resource Use

Textbooks are required (either eBook or softcover) for learning the content.  For face-to-face classes in any other course or section, textbooks supplement the lecture (especially if you are absent), and provide practice problems.

Calculators are used in every course.  A graphing calculator is required (the TI-83 or TI-84 are supported by the course & instructor).

Computer software, whenever needed, will be available for student use in the Math Resource Center.  MS Excel can be used in most of my courses.

Online homework is used extensively in all of my Math sections (both face-to-face and online).  Other courses will typically not use online homework.

Assessment

Most face-to-face classes have homework in some form, quizzes (in class and out), 3 or 4 unit exams, and a final exam.

Most online classes will have online homework (Mastery), online quizzes, 1 or 2 (proctored) mid-term exams, and a (proctored) final exam.

Roughly 70% of the grade will be determined by the unit or mid-term(s) and final exams, and 30% by the homework, quizzes and other material in the course.

Homework Policy

Due to fairness considerations, late work will being losing points on a daily rate L.

Attendance Policy

Your absence may affect your grade because of your subsequent lack of knowledge and understanding.  However, absences are NOT part of the grading formula.  Make-up exams are not given after the exam date.
