Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Math

Class Format

Face-to-face sections are mostly lecture with notes packets, examples and student interaction.

Online sections will require students to follow a weekly schedule to stay on track. Communication will be handled through email. I am available for online students to visit and ask questions on campus. Online students must have access to a computer, reliable Internet, be able to scan documents and work independently.

Resource Use

Textbooks for 115, 116 and 171 will primarily be e-books provided with My Math Lab however book purchase or rentals are optional and will be available if the student wishes to have a hard copy. Classes beyond College Algebra may or may not have an e-book or computer assisted learning.

Calculators: You are welcome to use a scientific or graphing calculator for class but they are not required.

Online homework will be assigned using My Math Lab where possible.

Summer classes will be textbook and paper homework only; no online component will be used unless the class is online. My Math Lab will be used for online summer classes.

Assessment

Most classes have homework in some form, 4 or 5 unit exams, and a final exam. Roughly 80% of the grade will be determined by the unit and final exams, and 20% by the homework and quizzes.

Homework Policy

Except for summer classes homework will be done online with deadlines. Late homework will be accepted with a -25% penalty.

Quizzes

Quizzes will be assigned in My Math Lab or given in class after covering several sections of material.

Attendance Policy

Your absence may affect your grade because of your subsequent lack of knowledge and understanding. However, absences are not part of the grading formula. Makeup unit exams are not given after the exam date. The final exam percentage will replace one missed unit exam.

Availability

I am normally on campus mid-morning to late afternoon.
