Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Math

Class Format

Both classes are face to face classes and delivered through interactive lecture. Students may also do group work or put problems on the board. Each class period, students receive a guide for the day that focuses the lecture and discussion. The guides are all available on D2L. The class notes are captured on paper, scanned and posted to D2L for student to check if they have a question about notes they took or to catch up after missing a test.

Resource Use

Students have a textbook and WEBASSIGN passcode for online homework. The homework is all online, but problems worked in class will frequently come from the text book. Students are allowed to use scientific or graphing calculators on tests.

Assessment

Grades will be calculated based on homework, test and final exam scores. The final exam score will replace the lowest test score, if the final exam score is higher. This is also the provision for missing one exam.

Homework Policy

Homework is to be done online and submitted by the due date. Although WEBASSIGN does not typically require students to “show their steps” it is a good idea to clearly write down steps to practice for test taking where the instructor is interested in process as well as answers.

Attendance Policy

Your absence may affect your grade because of your subsequent lack of knowledge and understanding.  However, absences are NOT part of the grading formula.  Make-up unit exams are not given after the exam date.  The final exam percentage will replace one missed unit exam.

Availability

The instruction can generally stay after class to meet with students and can come early if that an early appointment is prearranged.  Questions can also be answered through email, voicemail, D2L and WEBASSIGN.
