Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.
Math
Class Format
Face-to-face sections
Typical class involves lecture to support the theory and Socratic discussion of exercises. Student participation is encouraged. The focus of classroom discussion is building metaphorical connections to student’s life experience.
Resource Use
Textbooks
Students will reference the textbook for extra example and homework exercises. When possible, students will use an online text book.
Calculators
Depending on the class students may be required to use a scientific calculator or a graphing calculator.
Computer software
Depending on the class students may be required to use mathematical software including but not limited to: Statcrunch, Mathematica, excel, or minitab.
Online homework
Most classes will be required to complete online homework before each class.
Assessment
Most classes will have 4 or 5 unit exams, a final and a homework grade. Some classes may be required to complete a course project.
Homework Policy
No late homework, no extensions.
Attendance Policy
Students that miss a test will have that test dropped and replaced with the score on the final. Attendance is not part of the grade calculation.
Availability
Daily office hours in the morning or afternoon. Email replies within 24 hours or less.
