Instructors have provided the following information to generally describe what to expect in their classes.

Chemistry

Class Format

Face-to-face sections use a flipped classroom style of teaching. Students will watch lectures at home on the topics and in class the next day do homework problems on the content covered the night before. Students are encouraged to work together and with the instructor to work through the homework.

Resource Use

Textbooks are essential for all classes. Since students are doing their homework in class, they will need to bring anything to class that they would use to do their homework (including their textbook and calculator).

Online is required for all classes and is due at regular intervals.

Calculators are required for CHEM 124 and CHEM 125. Only non-graphing, scientific calculators may be used.

Molecular model kits are highly encouraged for CHEM 220.

Assessment

Classes will have between 5-6 unit exams and a cumulative final exam. In addition, quizzes, online homework, in class homework, and other similar assignments will make up the grade. For CHEM 220, lab work is part of the final assessed grade.

Homework Policy

Homework is done in class. Students who miss class can make up the homework that they missed for a penalty.

Attendance Policy

Attendance is essential for success in chemistry. Each class period will include an assignment that is part of your final course grade.

Availability

I am available on campus at different times each semester depending on my teaching schedule. Office hours will tend to be at times similar to classroom times for student convenience.
