- JCCC Students to Benefit from Kansas Promise Scholarship Act
May 27, 2021
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Johnson County Community College is pleased to be one of more than two dozen higher education institutions eligible to offer financial assistance to qualified students through the Kansas Promise Scholarship Act.
Signed into law on April 24, 2021, the Kansas Promise Scholarship Act provides no-cost financial assistance to eligible students enrolled in select two-year associate degree or career and technical education programs. This statewide initiative will increase access to higher education for Kansas residents and support efforts to build the Kansas workforce.
In order to qualify for scholarship funds, a student must be a Kansas resident and high school graduate (or equivalent) within the last 12 months or be 21 years or older and have lived in Kansas for at least three consecutive years. Household income must also meet defined program requirements.
JCCC offers more than 30 Promise-eligible programs across various fields of study, including IT and information security, advanced manufacturing and building trades, and healthcare.
JCCC students who enroll in eligible programs and meet the Kansas Promise Scholarship Act qualifications may receive funds for the cost of tuition and other course-related expenses, including books and equipment, that are not already covered by other scholarships or grants. In exchange, the student agrees to live and work in Kansas for two years after completing their course of study.
“I’m incredibly thankful to Governor Kelly and the Kansas Legislature for enacting the Kansas Promise Scholarship Act. This funding creates a huge opportunity for local high school graduates and those who are starting or restarting their college experience,” said Dr. Andy Bowne, JCCC President.
“We’ve seen Promise programs bring tremendous benefits to students, employers and communities nationwide. This opportunity isn’t just about getting more people into college, it’s about helping them choose careers where their education and training lead to great success while in college and beyond.”
Details on how JCCC students can take advantage of the Kansas Promise Scholarship will be released in the coming weeks.###
