OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Just in time for National Apprenticeship Week, Nov. 11-17, Johnson County Community College announces a partnership with local company Apple Electric Integrated Solutions that features a new Registered Electrician Apprenticeship program.

Apple Electric contacted JCCC expressing a need to quickly double the company’s manpower. We met the challenge and, together with their team, designed an apprenticeship program that provides related technical instruction to meet their needs. Upon program completion, students will be trained in safety, print reading, National Electric Code, commercial and industrial wiring, specific industry software and more.

The College is hosting an official signing event at 3 p.m., Nov. 12, in the Hugh L. Libby Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC 145). Representatives from Apple Electric Integrated Solutions, the Kansas Department of Commerce and Southeast KANSASWORKS, Inc., will be on campus to celebrate this exciting opportunity.

"The opportunity for Apple Electric IS employees is great, they get to learn from experts in the field with real-world equipment in a controlled environment on campus," said John Littleton, Program Director, Continuing Education. "They take this knowledge back to their workplace and readily apply what they have learned. It’s a true partnership between the company, the College and the student. It’s a win—win—win."

When it comes to apprenticeships, JCCC’s Continuing Education division works with individual companies to create customized programs to meet specific needs. Students who take advantage of these programs get hands-on training in our state-of-the-art facilities and can apply that training to on-the-job experience.
