Resources and a scholarship relieved the financial pressure.

After two years at a university studying Graphic Design, Jada Gordon knew she needed to transfer. The costs had become overwhelming, so she began the search for an affordable school where she could finish her degree.

She found all that — and more — at JCCC.

“JCCC was a nice option for me financially, and it had the major that I wanted,” said Jada. “It was a great fit!”

JCCC is committed to making education accessible and affordable for all students. Each year, we grant millions of dollars in scholarships to qualified JCCC students. And that’s just the beginning!

JCCC helps you fund your future

Once you become a Cavalier, you have access to a collection of free, student-centered resources designed to help you thrive.

Enjoy unlimited tutoring from the Academic Resource Center. Prepare for your future career with resume reviews and practice interviews at the Career Development Center. Cavaliers experiencing food or housing insecurity, or other hardships, can stop by the Student Basic Needs Center and find resources to combat challenges and support your success.

“Students who are currently taking classes at JCCC have access to the resources the Student Basic Needs Center provides,” said Robbie Miller, Student Basic Needs Coordinator. “The Cav Cupboard, our food pantry, can be visited one time per week. We also offer laptop and Wi-Fi hotspot loans to students, and financial assistance though the Student Assistance Fund for past-due bills, such as rent, utilities, and medical expenses.”

JCCC scholarships make your dreams possible

After transferring to JCCC and enrolling in the Graphic Design program, Jada felt like a financial weight had been lifted.

Those feelings continued to amplify when she received additional assistance in the form of a scholarship.

“I have been able to go to school without worrying about large bills and tuition,” she said. “It makes going to school a lot less stressful.”

With the monetary pressure gone, Jada has been able to focus on what her potential career will be when she graduates next summer. She is currently deciding between the education or business path.

“I would love to be an art teacher at an elementary school,” she said. “I have always loved helping kids grow and learn. Since I’m an older sibling and the oldest grandchild in the family, helping others grow had always been something I loved doing. But I would also love to work for a company and do design there.”

Regardless of where her career takes her, the financial relief provided by JCCC has been hugely beneficial for Jada and her family.

“I had always felt so pressured with being the oldest to test the waters and succeed in the family so I can give advice to my younger siblings,” she said. “But being able to go to JCCC, where I don’t have the stress of being able to afford things, has really helped me get through it all. I really wanted to graduate and I’m glad I’m able to do that here at JCCC.”
