Scholarships can fund adventures in learning across the globe.
Ready to experience the excitement of an international education? Study away through JCCC! The right program for you is out there. We offer over 100 programs across the globe ranging from two weeks to a full year, with possible scholarships to fund your expedition.
1. Short on time? Take a faculty-led trip
Taste freshly harvested chocolate in Costa Rica. Study the history of fashion in France. Explore sustainability solutions in the glaciers of Iceland.
Faculty-led trips like these can take you on an immersive, interactive experience in two weeks or less. Knowledgeable JCCC faculty lead you through breathtaking popular sites. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of each country’s social, political, and artistic cultures.
You’ll also earn academic credit during your adventure that will enhance your area of study. A recent faculty-led trip to Iceland took students through the country’s remarkable geologic features. Explorers learned about sustainable living efforts through Iceland’s world-leading sustainability initiatives.
Faculty-led programs are open to everyone, with new itineraries added year-round. Explore upcoming voyages and apply before the deadline.
2. Pursue a semester (or longer) away
Longer-term programs envelop you in the culture of your country of choice. In your summer, semester or full year away, opportunities for self-growth and discovery are endless. You’ll hear new languages, try different foods, and learn to navigate a foreign land during your time away.
As you experience new cultural and societal norms, you’ll also earn college credit. JCCC’s Global Engagement works with partner institutions to maximize the number of credits that can transfer back to JCCC. You could earn as many as 16 transferable college credits as you explore new surroundings.
3. Fund your study away with scholarships
JCCC offers multiple scholarship opportunities to make your study away dream a reality. Federal programs such as the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship can provide up to $5,000. Over 50 JCCC students have qualified!
Recent Gilman Scholarship awardee William Bennett studied politics at the American College of Greece in Athens, Greece. He found the experience influential to his education.
“There is value in studying politics in its historical birthplace of Athens,” said William. “Aristotle traveled from what is now Turkey to Athens to study in Plato’s Academy.”
Thanks to the Gilman Scholarship, William’s career is already set in motion.
“I plan to work in the government using the preferential federal hiring program that the Gilman Scholarship offers its alumni,” he said. “Organizations like U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, or in the Foreign Service.”
4. Round out your experience with the Global Awareness Program
Add an academic distinction to your time abroad with the Global Awareness Program. This four-component sequence earns you elevated recognition for your transcript and resume.
Begin by expanding your worldview with a globally focused course. Then, follow up with a campus event or activity with multinational connections.
By forming a foundation through these initial experiences, you’ll be ready and excited for the third component, your study away.
Once you’ve returned from your adventure, reflect on what you’ve learned in the final component, the capstone. Detail your achievements and submit your reflection to receive your Global Awareness Program recognition.
